25/07/2022 - Official Opening of Carrigart Digital Hub gteic@Carraig Airt

Minister for Rural & Community Development Heather Humphries T.D cutting the ribbon at the new Carrigart Digital Hub gteic@Carraig Airt.

 

The official opening took place on Thursday 21st July of the gteic@Carraig Airt a new digital hub based in the heart of Carrigart on Main Street offering eighteen desk spaces in a newly refurbished building of some 1,800 square feet.

 

The official launch was performed by the Minister for Rural & Community Development Heather Humphreys T.D. in the presence of the Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Liam Blaney and the Mayor of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Cllr Donal Mandy Kelly.

 

Other attendees included Minister for Agriculture Charlie Mc Conalogue TD,  Joe Mc Hugh TD and local Councillors Ciaran Brogan, Donal Coyle, Michael Mc Bride, Kevin Bradley, Barry Sweeney, Johnny Mc Guinness and representatives of Údarás na Gaeltachta including Bord Cathaoirleach Anna Ní Ghallachair and Chief Executive Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh

 

Speaking at the launch Cathaoirleach of the Council Cllr Liam Blaney acknowledged the support Donegal County Council receives from the Department of Rural & Community Development and in particular the town and village renewal scheme which allocated €230,000 to the digital hub in Carrigart.

 

Chief Executive of the Council John G Mc Laughlin said that the development offers a great opportunity for businesses and individuals in the local community to work remotely and support the local economy.

The gteic@Carraig Airt is part of a brand of digital hubs in the Gaeltacht region with the facility in Carrigart match funded by Donegal County Council together with capital contribution from Údarás na Gaeltachta.

 

Donegal County Council wishes to acknowledge the support of the local community groups including Moving Meevagh Forward who originally advocated the idea and applied for the initial funding to progress the project. The Council also wishes to acknowledge the work carried out by the design team MH Associates and the contractor Joe Mc Menamin & Co.

 

The management of the facility has been awarded to Comhlacht Forbartha An Tearmann who have experience of managing a digital hub in An Craoibhin.
